My chief gripe at first was, it wouldn't sit flat, and tipped toward the long stem.. with a few smokes, this problem went away, it was that finely balanced. just a wee bit of cake and moisture and there you have it. It's the classiest version of this pipe I've ever seen in briar. still I think the bottom could have a few degrees more angle so it always sits right, with the bit not touching the table... I must admit I am biased in this regard as the 1st pipe I ever carved for myself was one like this, with a shorter stem, and a steeper cut, so it sat without tilting. I was 9 years old, as I recall! I think the shape is an archetype. In my way of thinking, this should sit about like a check mark sits on a page.
